NEWFA Women’s Cup Final Preview

Date Published: Tuesday, 7th May, 2024 - 12:45pm by Adam Angerer

Connah’s Quay Nomads Women will be searching for their third successive NEWFA Cup triumph when Jordan Parry’s side face Airbus UK Broughton on Sunday, 12 May at Memorial Playing Fields, home of Ruthin Town.

The Nomads will also be looking to claim their second trophy of the season after already winning the Genero Adran North U19s title in emphatic style.

Road to the final
The Nomads certainly haven’t been short of goals in this year’s competition. A 4-1 win over Y Felinheli in round one got things rolling before Phoebe Ellis starred in round two as four goals from the teenager inspired The Nomads to a 5-1 victory over NFA.

The semi-final was also one to remember as hat-tricks from Shannon Hobbs, Sophie Hodson and Kirstie Kural along with first half goals from Polly Wild-McGregor and Kylie Jones secured a comfortable 11-0 victory over Llanfair United.

Airbus overcame tier three sides Amlwch Town, Denbigh Town and Llangefni Town on their way to reaching the final.

Previous trophy successes
The Nomads have defeated Airbus in the NEWFA Cup Final before as last year, Shannon Hobbs’ brace either side of Phoebe Ellis’ strike secured an impressive 3-0 victory to land the trophy.

Our first trophy success came a year prior as in the 2021/22 season, Hobbs, Jones and former midfielder Amber Bailey all got their names on the scoresheet in a stellar first half display to secure a 3-1 win over Llandudno.

Current form
The Nomads faced cup final opponents Airbus in their last Genero Adran North game of the season, and Parry’s side ensured they concluded their league campaign in style.

A hat-trick of goals from Alisha Wright and a hat-trick of assists from Sophie Rawling helped claim a 9-0 win over the Wingmakers, which followed previous victories in March over Bangor and Llanfair.

Airbus had to defeat The Nomads in order to avoid relegation from the Genero Adran North, but defeat meant they will be playing tier three football next season.
