Chance to Settle Old Scores

Thirteen years have elapsed since we lost to Bangor City in the Welsh Cup final at the Racecourse, Wrexham. On the day Nomads were deprived of several key players through injury and suspension, but were only seconds away from victory when the 'dream' was snatched away. Of course, current City boss Neville Powell was the Nomads' manager back then and was plotting to defeat HIS old club!

Steve Futcher had given us a 74th minute lead but with less than half a minute remaining, Nomads fans in the 2,023 crowd were silenced when Ken McKenna headed an equaliser. Extra-time brought no further goals and it was left to penalty kicks to decide who would gain a European spot. In Graeme Sharp's last game as Bangor manager it was City who triumphed 4-2 in the 'shoot-out' when former Nomads midfielder Nicky Brookman struck the winning penalty kick to add further irony.

Since then we have met the Citizens on one further occasion - in the second round of the 2008/9 competition when Bangor won 1-0 at Farrar Road. Since Neville left Deeside, he has led Bangor to three successive Welsh Cup final victories - a tremendous record. Now we have an opportunity, as underdogs, to create a cup shock of our own.

The semi-finals are to be played over the weekend of 9th and 10th April but venues have yet to be decided.
