As we build up to this Sunday's 131st JD Welsh Cup Final, we today take a look at the path both The Nomads and Aberystwyth Town have taken to reach the showcase finale.
Connah's Quay Nomads
The Nomads 3-0 Cwmbran Celtic

Second half goals from Michael Bakare, Matty Owen and John Oyenuga followed a disallowed Michael Wilde header in the first half to give The Nomads a comfortable victory and passage to the fourth round.
The Nomads 3-1 Porthmadog
Round Four | Deeside Stadium | Sat 27th January 2018
The visitors went ahead through a Joe Chaplin effort inside the first ten minutes, but just three minutes later, Michael Bakare equalised from a free kick. In the 34th minute, Bakare turned supplier as he setup Michael Wilde to give The Nomads the lead. The result was secured in the 84th minute when George Horan headed home a Nathan Woolfe corner to give The Nomads the 3-1 victory.
The Nomads 2-1 The New Saints
Quarter Final | Deeside Stadium | Tues 6th March 2018
As in the previous round, The Nomads fonud themselve behind at home in the opening minutes, and again it was Michael Bakare who equalised from a free kick in very similar fashion to his equaliser against Porthmadog in the previous round. In the 49th minute, Andy Owens was brought down inside the box and Callum Morris stepped up to give The Nomads the lead. John Danby went on to make a number of important saves to keep TNS out and progress to the Semi Finals.
The Nomads 6-1 Bangor City
Semi Final | Corbett Sports Stadium, Rhyl | Sat 7th April 2018
In perhaps the biggest shock scoreline of the Cup this season, The Nomads dispatched of The Citizens, hammering six goals past them. Three goals in ten first half minutes from Andy Owens, Ryan Wignall and Michael Bakare saw The Nomads go in 3-0 up at the break. Owens struck again in the 56th and 60th minute to round off his hat-trick before Nathan Woolfe came on to score in the 76th minute.
Aberystwyth Town 4-0 Bala Town
Round Three | Park Avenue | Sat 2nd December
Aber started their Cup run in fine fashion, knocking out holders Bala Town with a thumping 4-0 victory thanks to goals from Declan Walker, John Owen, Joe Phillips and Luke Borelli to stun The Lakesiders.
Cardiff Met Uni 0-1 Aberystwyth Town
Round Four | Cyncoed Campus | Sat 27th January 2018
Aber overcame the highly fancied Cardiff Met in a hard-fought victory was saw a solitary strike from Malcolm Melvin give Nev Powell's side the victory to reach the quarter finals forthe first time in four years.
Carmarthen Town 1-3 Aberystwyth Town
Quarter Final | Richmond Park | Tues 6th March 2018
An impressive performance from the Black and Greens saw Aber topple Carmarthen as they ran out 3-1 winners. Aber took a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Joe Phillips, John Owen and Malcolm Melvin. Liam Thomas pulled back a late consolation strike for the Old Gold, but it was not enough to stope Aber from progressing to the Semi Finals.
Newtown 1-2 Aberystwyth Town
Semi Final | Maes Tegid, Bala | Sun 8th April 2018
Aber battled to a 2-1 victory over Newtown at Bala's Maes Tegid to secure their place in the final. Aber took a two goal lead through a Declan Walker double. Ex-Nomads, Nick Rushton did claw one back for The Robins, but it was to be in vain as Aber booked their place in the Final.
While The Nomads last appearance in a Welsh Cup Final was in 1998, Aber most recently featured in the 2014 final, losing out to The New Saints with Michael Wilde scoring the 87th minute winner in a 3-2 victory for TNS.
