An interview with Danny Holmes

Following Monday's announcement that Danny Holmes has joined the club, we spoke to the latest addition to Andy Morrison's squad.

Holmes joins some familiar faces having played with a number of Nomads thorugh the years including Danny Harrison, Callum Morris, Michael Wilde and Joe Heath.

What attracted you to Deeside?
"First and foremost, the opportunity to play in the Europa League and challenge TNS for the league title. To work with the manager was a big pull for me as well as I see my future as a coach or manager - with his experience and past in football, he is someone I can definitely learn from and someone who can get the best out of me."

What do you see as the biggest challenge facing you and your new team mates next season?
"The biggest challenge is obviously TNS - our aim should be to challenge them as they have been the benchmark over the past several seasons."

Have you set yourself any targets?
"My main target is always to perform for the team and win things. That's what football is all about and I'm an ambitious person."

Having played in the WPL last season, how do you see the standard of the league?
"From the first time I plaed in the league with TNS in 2009 to now, the standard has greatly improved. It's a hugely competitive league and if you disrespect anyone, you will get punished."

What are you most looking forward to?
"I'm really looking forward to meeting the lads and generally looking forward to each and every game. I love football, so whether it's a training session or matchdays, I will enjoy what I'm doing and will always be looking to win." Holmes was the subject of transfer interest from Celtic in 2012 following an impressive season at Tranmere Rovers, however the move never came for Birkenhead-born Danny. One of Holmes' most memorable moments in football came as he helped York City lift the 2017 FA Trophy at Wembley in a 3-2 victory over Macclesfield Town.

Holmes will be available for The Nomads' Europa League campaign and will no doubt feature in the pre-Europa friendly matches.
