Born in St Asaph, Williams was a Wales Under 21 international and joined Manchester United as a 16 year old where he played alongside a number of players which went on to bigger and better things including Kieran Richardson, Phil Bardsley, Giuseppe Rossi and most notably, Gerard Pique.
Since leaving Old Trafford, Williams went on to play for Notts County, Tamworth, Burton Albion and Rhyl before joining The New Saints in 2010. His first season with TNS saw him score 24 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions.
Williams notably scored twice in the 2015 Welsh Cup Final victory over Newtown and also scored in the UEFA Champions' League qualifying rounds against B36 Torshavn and Videoton.
Williams made his Nomads debut against Carmarthen Town on the opening day of the 2016-17 season before leaving Deeside Stadium in November 2017 to join Llandudno as Assistant Manager to ex-Nomads, Iwan Williams.
Matty made 34 starts and nine substitute appearances in all competitions for The Nomads, scoring on 10 ocassions.
