Merner was called up to the first team squad from the club's academy ahead of the 2018/19 season and was a regular on the bench throughout the league campaign.

Eric became the 31st player from Connah's Quay Nomads to represent Wales at International level when he was selected to represent Wales Schools U18 against Australia in early 2019.
