At every football club there are people behind the scenes whose workload largely goes unnoticed by the club’s supporters. John Nixon is one such gentleman. Currently the Nomads’ matchday finance officer, John rarely sees the first half of home games whilst dealing with the income through the turnstile.
Born in Chester, John was a good footballer and remembers playing against The Nomads for Buckley Wanderers as a young man. He first took an interest in the football club in 1974 during his training in the brewery industry at the Halfway House pub. Three years later he became licensee, a role he fulfilled for some eleven years. During that time, football club meetings were held on the premises and when the Club became a limited company, John acted as Company Secretary.
During the 1980s, John assisted in various committee roles as the Club geared up to joining first the Welsh Alliance and then, in 1990, the Cymru Alliance, moves which culminated in Connah’s Quay Nomads becoming founder members of today’s JD Cymru Premier when it was launched (as the League of Wales) in August 1992.
After more than 40 years involved with the football club, John stood down from his roles at the end of the 2023/24 season.
