The Nomads overcame Blacon Youth 6-0 with goals from Gary O Toole and George Baxter in the first half, followed up by 4 more from Danny Dobbins, a Rob Jones free kick and 2 from Dean Canning.
Nomads began the 2012/13 season in traditional fashion by sending a strong squad to nearby Blacon for the opener. We started very well getting in several early corners. A trim Gary O’Toole was looking very sharp and the West Cheshire League side’s keeper saved twice. However a goal came when Gary did score inside six minutes. Good work by Ricky Evans and Rob Jones led to a neat finish inside the box. We were well on top now and both Gary and Rob put in more strikes at goal.
Just past the half hour mark, Alan Hooley got down the left and delivered a good deep cross. George Baxter made a good finish at back post to double the lead. It was all one way traffic and the Blacon keeper did well to deny both Gary and Rob with neat saves.
Gary O’Toole came off and Dean Canning came on for his Nomads debut in the second half. We also saw another debutant as we started forcefully with Chris Rowntree showing up well in a mid field role. A long throw by Rob Jones was met by Danny Dobbins powerfully heading in the third.
John Rushton had little to do as, Blacon rarely got the ball with Nomads midfield in complete control with Ben Alston, Danny Dobbins and Mark McGregor dominating everything that crossed the half way line behind them. Dean Canning supplied a cool finish to slot home the fourth before a stunning Rob Jones free kick made it five. Dean showed us what to expect, as a good pass let him expertly convert the sixth. It could have been even more decisive, particularly had Rhys Healey converted a late penalty.
Nomads Squad:
Rushton, Alston, Dobbins, McGregor, Robinson, Hooley, Forde, C Jones, Rowntree, R Jones, Evens, O’Toole, Canning, Healy, Baxter, Tinsley.
Most of the squad played and it was every bit the good work out we had hoped for. We thank Blacon for finding a suitable venue when their ground was declared unfit. We move on from this to a stiff challenge on Tuesday when Runcorn Town come to the Stadium for a 7-30 Kick off. The Pavilions side beat us 3-1 in last year’s pre season campaign.
