Nomads start pre-season with win over Ruthin

The Nomads started our pre-season campaign with a 3-1 victory over Ruthin Town.

The match saw a Nomads lineup start with a number of trialists, first team players and young players but it was the club Captain George Horan who would set the tone early on as he got on the end of a Josh Williams corner to head The Nomads in front after just five minutes.

Just before the half hour mark, new signing Joe Malkin would get his first goal for the club - again, Josh Williams would send in a corner and this time it was met by Joe Malkin who headed powerfully beyond the Ruthin 'keeper to make it a comfortable 2-0.

Ruthin would have a chance of their own just a few minutes later as ex Nomads Academy player Joe Sullivan would strike from the edge of the box, but it wasn't enough to challenge our trialist goalkeeper as it floated over the bar.

The Nomads would have two further chances in the first half as Horan headed inches wide and Josh Williams would see a free kick from the edge of the box saved.

The Nomads made wholesale changes at half time with nine changes and within two minutes of the restart, two trialists would combine to extend The Nomads' lead to 3-0.

Josh Williams would have a close range effort saved just five minutes later and the majority of the remainder of the game would be played in Nomads posession as we saw out the game until Ruthin found a consolation header through a trialist of their own with just under 15 minutes to go.

The match was a great starting point for many of our squad to get valuable minutes under their belts as they look to regain fitness ahead of the new season.

Our next friendly comes on Saturday 9th July away at Holywell Town with a 2pm kick off.
