Nomads handle the heat at the Bay

Tuesday night saw The Nomads pick up a 3-1 victory over Colwyn Bay at Llanelian Road in our latest pre-season friendly.

Colwyn Bay started the game with plenty of vigor and took the game to The Nomads early on and were rewarded after just 15 minutes when Joe Williams flashed a cross into the box and it hit George Horan and went beyond Andy Firth to give the Bay the lead.

The lead wouldn't last long however as Aeron Edwards would poke home a Mike Wilde shot just 5 minutes later to draw The Nomads level.

Edwards made an acrobatic attempt just 10 minutes later from a free kick with his overhead bicycle kick landing on the roof of the net.

Colwyn Bay had two quick attempts in the last 10 minutes of the half with Andy Firth first making a good close range save and then from the resulting corner, the Colwyn Bay captain would hit the crossbar with a left-footed volley.

The Nomads came out on the front foot in the second half having gone in at the break at 1-1 and within the first 15 minutes of the restart, there were two good efforts saved by ex-Nomads Cameron Darling in the Bay goal.

The first came after some high pressing from The Nomads' frontline and the ball fell to Harry Franklin on the edge of hte box who hit a strike with the outside of his right foot only to see Darling gather the ball. Edwards was the next to be denied by Darling as Ryan Harrington slipped a neat through ball to Aeron Edwards who sent a low left-footed shot to goalwards, but was denied by a strong left hand.

On the 70 minute mark, The Nomads would build up a neat bit of play down the left wing with Ryan Harrington and Harry Franklin combining before Franklin sent a cross to the back post where Aron Williams rose highest to head beyond Darling to send The Nomads 2-1 up.

Just two minutes later, Aeron Edwards would head inches wide and with just five minutes to go, The Nomads would put the game beyond Colwyn Bay as Ryan Harrington would receive a free kick as he won a header and was sent under the ball with a heavy landing by the Colwyn Bay defender.

Harrington would then get up to take the resulting free kick and send a low drive under both the wall and Cameron Darling to give The Nomads the 3-1 victory in front of a crowd of 380 at a very warm Llanelian Road.
