John Disney’s first match in charge of Connah’s Quay Nomads was a winning one as we ran out 5-2 victors over Mold Alexandra in our first pre-season friendly ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Disney used this first fixture to get all of our current senior players, younger players working under our new hybrid model, and trialists working together.
The Nomads started brightly, and it was a moment of brilliance from Max Woodcock which got things rolling at the Essity Stadium.
Woodcock, who is also a part of our new hybrid model, cut inside onto his favoured right foot and picked out the far corner with a sweet strike.
Jack Kenny was praised by manager Disney for his work during the off-season, and the striker got his name on the scoresheet just two minutes after Woodcock’s opener as he calmly converted from the penalty spot after Abdi Sharif was fouled in the area.
Sharif nearly opened his account for the Nomads towards the end of the first half, but his header from Noah Edwards’ cross rattled the post.
Mold pulled a goal back through one of their trialists, but Kenny quickly restored the two-goal cushion by tapping home the rebound from a trialist’s saved effort.
Mold talisman Owen Cordiner halved the deficit, but two further goals from a trialist ensured we began our pre-season with a victory.
Our next pre-season fixture is just three days away as we host Newtown at The Poppies 3G on Tuesday, 8 July (7:45pm KO).
Following today’s win against Mold, Disney had this to say after earning his first victory in charge:
