A well deserved draw for The Nomads at Aberystwyth

Jamie Petrie scored a sublimbe goal to ensure that the Nomads shared the spoils in an exciting end to end game at Aberystwyth.

Nomads showed at Park Avenue that their recent slump in form is well behind them with a gritty and skill-full performance. In an entertaining end-to-end game, honours ended even with a 1-1 draw that keeps both sides well in contention for the Europa League Play Offs.

Aberystwyth were quickest out of the blocks and Bari Morgan curled an early chance wide, before Cledan Davies sent a free kick into the box in the sixth minute and Mark Jones rose highest to head the ball past the Nomads’ keeper.

Nomads soon responded with an over-head kick from Mike Hayes that went just wide of the post and then minutes later, Aberystwyth were back on the attack and Mark Jones took the ball past John Rushton, only for Alan Hooley to clear his goal-bound effort off the Nomads goal-line. Wyn Thomas then headed onto the roof of the net from an Aberystwyth corner, before some delightful passing from the Nomads ended with Rob Jones crossing from the left for Jamie Petrie to score a superb 33rd minute equaliser.

Aberystwyth’s Jordan Follows had a goal disallowed for offside and then just before the half time break, home keeper Mike Lewis pulled off a great stop to deny Mike Hayes in a one-on-one.

In the second half, there were plenty of scoring opportunities for both sides, but neither side could take their chances. Danny Forde had a good chance for Nomads but hit the post and then John Rushton made a point blank save from a header by Aber’s Gavin Cadwallader.

Jordan Follows fired over for Aber before Mark Jones had a first time drive safely gathered by Nomads keeper John Rushton and then Glyndwr Hughes shot wide. Michael Robinson blasted a good chance over for the Nomads and then late in the game, a Mike Hayes shot was deflected inches wide.

This was an excellent away point for the Nomads against a team that has held the upper hand in 3 previous meetings this season. This timely return to form will stand the Nomads in good stead for the forth-coming home game against Llanelli on Saturday
