A goalless draw on a rock hard pitch was a fair outcome to this good pre season affair.
The expensively assembled home team, built to challenge for the Cymru Alliance title put on the early pressure with Barry Hogan prompting well and Phil Doran bursting free on the right. However, Nomads coped comfortably and the threat of ex Bangor striker Alan Bull was well snuffed out. The hosts had the bulk of first half possession but didn't trouble Jon Rushton's goal. On the break Nomads could have put in two . Firstly with ex Nomads stopper Louis Mackin stranded on the areas edge, skipper Craig Jones put in a perfect lob that would have netted on any other pitch. Here it bounced crazily and came back from the crossbar. Later a great move engineered by the classy Ricky Evans and put through by Danny Desormeaux was struck well by Mike Hayes for Mackin to save well at full stretch.
The second half saw debutantes, defender Mike Sharples, forwards Josh Lane and Simon Everall into action. Within 90 seconds Everall ran onto a Lane cross but steered his chance just wide. Lane hit two just over and Everall was denied in a 1 v 1 with the substitute home keeper. Conwy were useful and always threatened. Sharples and Dobbins working very well to nullify the threat from wide. However late on Rushton was called on twice to stop low shots with his customary confidence.
A good warm up against a side who have all the resources to mount a title challenge in their league. Danny Desormeaux, Mike Sharples, Josh Lane and Simon Everall all did well first time out in a Nomads kit. No one had a bad game and Ricky once again showed that he will be a positive presence in the new WPL campaign.
Season underway and looking good.
