Rampant Robins put four past Nomads

The Nomads' poor run of form continued on Friday night when they welcomed Newtown AFC, who would come away with a great win with goals from Hearsey, Jones, White and Williams.

Before the game, The Nomads were eager with the prospect of ending a run of three straight defeats at the hands of Rhyl, TNS and Bangor against Newtown.  The game was also a big one for the visitors, it being the first game with new manager Chris Hughes at the helm.

Two strong lineup's started the game, but it was the visitors who started stronger with chances coming early, with early pressure from Andy Jones and alike, forcing many corners.  However their breakthrough came from an in-play goal with Hearsey making a great curling shot that 'keeper Terry Mcormick could not stop from sending the Robins 1-0 up on 21 minutes.

In an attempt to boost a under par Nomads, Mark Mcgregor substituted himself on to the pitch in the replacement of Mark Smyth on 30 minutes. This did improve Nomads but only by little means, as Nomads didn't concede for the rest of the first half but failed to bring themselves level before the whistle signalled the interval.

With better play towards the end of the first half The Nomads felt they could still quite possibly get something from the game but the Robins dented their hopes once again just seven minutes into the second half with Jeff White sending a sublime header into Nomads' net.

Things looked to be going from bad to worse for Nomads when Craig Jones made a tough challenge that saw him get yellow, all be it with some jostling amongst a crowd of the red and yellow shirts following the tackle.

Another substitution was made, this time Simon Everall making way for Player of the Month Gary O' Toole, looking to make an impact that, despite his efforts including striking the crossbar from outside the box, could not be converted into a goal for The Nomads.

Chris Hughes managerial debut continued it's positive way when Andy Jones scored with another simple but winning header past the Nomads who at this point looked a deflated side with much against them. Although at times The Nomads' attacks did look promising, overall they were out played by a strong and hard working Newtown side.

The game ended with a final goal going yet again the visitors way when a foul in the box was made and the referee pointed to the spot, where Craig Williams made no mistake in making the full time score Newtown AFC 4-0 Nomads.
