Nomads share the spoils with Seasiders

Nomads earned a draw on Friday night with Prestatyn Town FC at a wet and windy Deeside Stadium. Nomads went ahead with goals from Michael Hayes and Paul Mooney before Sean Hessey and Gareth Wilson ensured a comeback for the travelling Prestatyn outfit.

The game opened well for Nomads with an opportunity arising in the sixth minute for Michael Hayes when the keeper hit the ball straight to his feet. Hayes took his chance and slotted the ball in the net, giving nomads an early boost to forfill their aim of improving form.

The majority of the first half was filled with an attacking display with Nomads, just minutes after their goal almost going 2-0 up when Hayes send a lobbing effort beyond the keeper only for his effort to be cleared off the line.

Prestatyn saw attacks too, but in the first half struggled against the wind and their strikers often being flagged offside when on an attack. Lee Hunt had a golden opportunity wasted when he found himself one on one with Keeper McCormick but sent the ball wide of the left post.

The remaining duration of the first half stayed at 1-0 to Nomads thanks to some stern defending from Nomads, who faced an increasingly attacking Prestatyn as the game went on. Everall saw a chance to give nomads another goal before the break when he connected with a ball from Hayes clear in front of goal, but was dispossessed by keeper Roberts in the process of trying to go round him.

Nomads went in after the first half the side in front but Prestatyn were far from out of it. Coming out into the second half the Seasiders were attacking from the off, putting the ball in the net via Lee Hunt on 52 minutes but for it to be ruled offside by the linesman.

Despite their pressure Nomads were resilient and still went for the win, being awarded a penalty after a handball by Rhys Lewis inside the Prestatyn box. Paul Mooney stepped up and scored, making the prospect of three points very real for the home side.

This lead from nomads may have acted as a wake up call for urgency from Prestatyn, as from Mooney's goal the visitors were dominant for most of the game. Shots came in from far and wide, but the wind meant Terry McCormick could make a save with ease from the reduced impact of the shot.

Prestatyn's hard work began to pay off on 81 minutes when Wilson scored a goal, heading the ball in from a corner to turn the heat on Nomads and give his side ammunition to pull off a comeback.

Nomads efforts to retain the lead were visible with Ryan Edwards replacing Paul Mooney and Simon Everall making way for Jamie Wynne.

Unfortunately for the Nomads their efforts to take all three points scuppered on the 90th minute when Sean Hessey found the net again from a corner to complete a comeback for the visiting side.

Elevated Prestatyn pushed for a winner in the final minutes of injury time but the referee signalled full time at 2-2. A hard fought draw for nomads who may be disappointed not to have taken all three points, but encouraged by a valiant performance against a well equipped attacking side.

Nomads next game is the start of the festive double header, when they face neighbours Airbus UK at the Deeside stadium on Boxing Day, for a 2:30pm kick off.
