NEWTOWN'S hopes of a top-10 finish were dented on Deeside as they fell 3-1 to Gap Connah's Quay.
The home side adapted better to the difficult conditions and Robins' keeper Dave Maguire was forced to scramble back to keep out a lob from Chris Herbert.
Only a last-ditch tackle by Robbie James denied Jamie Petrie, but Nomads took the lead when a shot from Herbert was only parried by Maguire and Mike Hayes knocked in the rebound.
Newtown were soon level thanks to on-loan Wrexham striker Obi Anoruo who played a one-two before placing the ball past Terry McCormick.
Craig Hutchinson was denied by the home keeper soon after the restart and Damien Daniels fired over, but it was the home side who were soon celebrating.
Denied by an assistant's flag, Herbert hads better luck the second time from Stuart Scheuber's flick-on.
And Scheuber himself added the third, beating two defenders before firing into the bottom corner.
