McNutt's goal stuns Llanelli

LLANELLI became the latest of the top three sides to slump to a shock defeat at the Deeside Stadium as Connah's Quay blew the title race wide open.

The Reds followed in the footsteps of The New Saints and Aberystwyth as they saw their 12-match winning run come to an end.

A well struck shot from substitute Sam McNutt eight minutes from time proved to be the difference between the sides, but Llanelli never showed their true potential and rarely tested Nomads' keeper Terry McCormick.

A well-organised home defence kept the visitors at bay and the hosts grew in confidence during the second-half.

Ashley Morris pulled off a good save to push a goal bound effort from Aaron Burns to safety, while Owain Warlow blocked another attempt on the line.

With time running out, McNutt took full advantage of some sloppy defending in the box to strike a crisp shot into the bottom corner past the despairing dive of Morris.

Referee Lee Evans waived away penalty claims when Jason Bowen clashed with the onrushing McCormick as Nomads held out for the points.
