Steelmen miss their shooting boots

PORT Talbot ground out a win at the GenQuip Stadium to virtually end Connah's Quay hopes of qualifying for next season's Welsh Premier.

The only goal of the game arrived midway through the first-half when Scott Barrow beat marker Ben Alston to fire in a left-wing cross and the ball was farmed by Lee John to Liam McCreesh, who netted from 12 yards.

Home keeper Lee Kendall had almost gifted the Nomads an early lead with a poor clearance, but got back to save a 30-yarder return from Chris Herbert.

Martin Rose fired over from another Barrow cross and then side-footed another effort well high of the target from a Lloyd Grist delivery.

Matthew Rees was denied by keeper Terry McCormick at his near post following a Leigh De-Vulgt corner and McCreesh sent his shot well over the bar from a Grist left-wing cross.

Neil Thomas and McCreesh combined for Drew Fahiya to test McCormick as the Steelmen ended with just one goal to show for a dominant performance.
