Four of the best from Nomads

Nomads comfortably maintained their 100% start to the league season at the Memorial Playing Field despite losing the Alston brothers and top scorer Gary O'Toole with injuries. Mike Hayes and Stuart Scheuber, for Chris Herbert and Dean Thurston, were the only changes from the team that started the last league match, against Rhayader Town, two weeks ago.

With the game barely three minutes old, full-back Ben Collins was on hand to strike a right-foot half volley past a startled Ruthin Town goalkeeper for his third goal of the season. Having gained such an early advantage, Nomads were quick to turn the screw and Ruthin were pegged back by attacking moves down both flanks. Mike Hayes was thwarted from close in by 'keeper Ben Jones as the visitors turned up the heat and it was no surprise when Nomads doubled their advantage after 18 minutes. Hayes evaded tough-tackling full-back Joe Garner and crossed the ball invitingly into the six-yard area where both Collins and Craig Jones were unmarked and it was 'Tigga' who planted a header firmly into the bottom corner - his tenth career goal for the club.

Having suffered a split cheek, courtesy of a Ruthin elbow, Ben Alston was replaced at the interval by Alan Hooley. Further injuries to Andy Alston (ankle) and Gary O'Toole (leg) resulted in a reorganisation without having any undue affect upon the team's control of the game. Ruthin briefly threatened in a ten-minute spell although Terry McCormick had to make only one comfortable save and, instead, had to spend much of the second period performing the role of ball-boy collecting wayward Ruthin efforts from behind the perimeter fence. On the hour Nomads further increased their lead and the only surprise was that it had been such a long time in coming. Mark McGregor laid a neat ball off to Stuart Scheuber who fired a left-foot shot beyond Jones from 20 yards.

With 'man of the match' Craig Jones running the show, Nomads continued to play slick football which only foundered upon rugged tackling from the Ruthin defence marshalled by Miles Todd. Substitute Jamie Petrie saw plenty of the ball on both wings and Nomads always looked capable of scoring whenever they broke forward. With time running out, Mike Hayes capped an effervescent display with a deserved goal cutting in from the left before sending an unstoppable shot low into Jones' net.

Nomads: Terry McCormick, Ben Alston, Ben Collins, Mark McGregor, Andy Alston, Craig Jones, Tommy Baker, Danny Forde, Gary O'Toole, Mike Hayes and Stuart Scheuber.
Substitutes: Chris Herbert
