Rhyl went back to the top of the table, but they were made to fight all the way by the Nomads, who produced their best performance of the season in defeat.
The visitors took the game to their big-spending rivals and, had it not been for an inspired performance by Rhyl goalkeeper Lee Kendall, they might have come away with a shock victory.
The away side's best chances fell to Tommy Mutton, who was tackled when clean through on goal by Greg Stones, and Danny Forde, who fired over the crossbar when well placed.
Adam Dickinson was also denied by Kendall and Kieran Quinn also fired over following good work by Liam Loughlin.
In the second half, Quay's keeper Chris Maxwell saved from Carl Owen and George Horan before Kendall somehow blocked Loughlin's shot.
The Lilywhites finally broke the deadlock in the 80th minute when captain George Horan headed home against his former club before Paul O'Neill nodded in from another corner six minutes later to rub salt into the wounds.
