Neath boss Andrew Dyer is starting to "fear the worst" after watching his side dominate Connah's Quay, only to lose 1-0.
The Eagles squandered a host of chances and paid the price, falling behind in the 22nd-minute when Stephen Evans, attempting to clear a corner, headed into his own net under pressure from Nomads' debutant striker Paul Addo.
Matthew Rees, Richard French, Ceri Morgan and Andy Hill all had one-on-one opportunities to score past visiting keeper Craig Vernon, but all fired wide, with only Dion Chambers hitting the target from 18 yards.said Dyer.
"It's unbelievable that we have come away from this game with nothing.
"I'm a very optimistic person, but I am now beginning to fear the worst.
"We have a big challenge ahead of us and the first of those challenges is at Rhyl next week and they don't come much harder than that."
