Steve Rogers continued his run of scoring form with a hat-trick as Welshpool relieved the pressure with a 3-1 victory over the Nomads.
But the match ended on a sour note with three red cards.
Pool's Richie Harris and Martin McCubbin, as well as Nomads' Phil Clark, were all dismissed for second bookings, but home boss Huw Griffiths said: "There were six bookings and three sendings-off. It looked like a riot, but it wasn't a dirty game."
Welshpool dominated the first half with Rogers netting twice and he completed his treble with a well-placed free kick into the top left corner on 58 minutes to put the result beyond doubt.
Danny Forde grabbed a consolation goal for Connah's Quay with a good shot from the edge of the area but the hosts were well-worth their win as Nomads slumped to their fourth league defeat in a row.
