Six new signings restored some pride to Connah's Quay despite a 1-0 defeat at Belle Vue.
Rhyl claimed their first home league win in four games to cement their grip on third place, but they found the visitors an altogether more resilient side than the one that crumbled 5-0 on Deeside a week ago.
New signings Phil McDiarmid and Mike Burns strengthened the defence, although the concession of only one goal owed something to the home side's lack of a killer instinct in shooting positions.
Nomads' keeper Paul Pritchard dealt comfortably dealt with two Andy Moran attempts before Lee Hunt's header from a Gareth Wilson corner hit the outside of a post.
Some desperate defending denied Hunt before Rhyl took the lead on 31 minutes. Moran's shot was kept out by a diving Pritchard but Craig Jones followed up to net the rebound from six yards.
Both sides had chances in the second half with a superb home move almost bringing a goal but for a superb double save from Marc Connolly and Hunt by the impressive Pritchard.
Without a second goal to secure the points, Rhyl had a few scares but Nomads were never able to force home keeper Kendall into a serious save although there was an injury time scare when a McDiarmid corner arrived at the feet of Craig Jones who sliced wide from six yards out.
