IT finished all square and goal-less at New Bridge Meadow, but Nomads have already done enought to suggest that last season's misery is just a dim and distant memory. Neville Powell's men shaded the contest against a Haverfordwest outfit that are always difficult to match on their own turf. Chances were scarce in a contest dominated by defences, but veteran Tommy Mutton was always a threat for the visitors. He had a chip cleared off the line by Simon Heal, while Craig Hutchinson forced Bluebirds' keeper Lee Kendall to tip his effort onto the crossbar. Tim Hicks almost got on the end of a Heal pass on 57 minutes for the hosts, but it was Mutton who almost had the last word, breaking clear only to see his shot saved well by Kendall. The result leaves Connah's Quay in the heady heights of fourth place, a far cry from their blank start to the previous campaign.
