Airbus win could ensure survival

CONNAH'S Quay have seen their European aspirations take a near-mortal blow twice in four days.

They followed up Saturday's defeat at Bangor by slumping 2-1 at home to next-bottom outfit Airbus, who notched-up their first awat win of the season.

Two goals in an eight-minute spell just before half time put the Wingmakers on the road to victory. Darren Williams latched on to a long ball and when his shot rebounded off keeper Paul Smith, leading scorer James McIntosh picked up the pieces to score.

A David Hughes snap shot from just inside the box doubled the lead, forcing Nomads' manager Nev Powell to bring on Tommy Mutton and Phil Molyneaux at the break for Gary Pinch and debutant Chris Melia.

Despite upping the tempo and going close through Craig Garside and Chris Sargeant, the hosts could still not find a route to goal, although they were given hope after 74 minutes when Darren Williams was sent-off for a second bookable offence.

The 10-man Wingmakers held out until the 88th-minute before conceding to Nomads' skipper Marc Limbert, who was brought down when through on goal but it was too little, too late for the home side.

Meanwhile, the Airbus win leaves Caernarfon in deep trouble, six points adrift at the bottom of the table.
