NEWTOWN boss Roger Preece warned his players not to rest on their laurels before a return visit to the scene of their 3-0 League Cup triumph.
But a brace from Danny Barton either side of the interval gave Newtown the points.
Although it was Connah's Quay who applied the early pressure, Barton fired Nomads a warning when he headed over in the 11th minute.
But when the striker headed the Robins in front from a right wing cross a minute before the break it was hard on the home side, who had enjoyed a good share of possession.
Seven minutes into the second half, Andy Griffiths fouled Andrew Webb and Barton stepped up to convert the result penalty.
To their credit, Nev Powell's side continued to attack, with skipper Danny Jellicoe sending a header over the bar and a 25-yarder from Jay Hughes well-saved by Newtown keeper John Rowley.
However the visitors held out to maintain their 100% start to the new season.
