Nomads denied by the woodwork

ONLY the width of a post denied the Nomads from gaining their first Welsh Premier League win of the season.

With just a couple of minutes remaining of a dire, lifeless affair, visiting midfielder Craig Hutchinson’s angled, long-range shot cannoned back in to play to ensure parity.

The incident was the absolute highlight of one of the dreariest encounters the 14-year-old league has produced.

And the fact it was watched by just 60 spectators, gives credence to those who argue against arranging fixtures on international day.

Not only were there no clear-cut chances created by either side, but neither goalkeeper had a noteworthy save to make during the entire 90 minutes.

Nomads boss Nev Powell was obviously the happier afterwards as he took in his side's first point of the season: "We’re up and running at last and let's hope this can be a catalyst for us to progress from here," he said

Opposite number Wayne Davies had just witnessed his team extend its sequence of league draws since the start of the campaign to a remarkable sixth match.

"We simply didn’t perform well enough today to warrant a victory and I just don’t know when we’re going to end this run of draws."

Several spectators parked their cars directly behind one goal at the venue, although they would have been equally as safe in the six-yard box – such was the lack of activity in that particular area. This game was what nightmares are made of.
