IMPROVING Connah's Quay passed the Welsh Premier's wooden spoon to their opponents, who could consider themselves a trifle unlucky not to leave Deeside with a share of the spoils.

Recent signing Martin Robinson finished off a three-man move involving Craig Hutchinson and Ryan Crawford to give delighted manager Nev Powell an early Christmas present.

The Ulster frontman almost grabbed another five minutes later only to see his effort blocked on the line and his shot from the rebound hit a post. But Druids came into the game after the break as they went in search of an equaliser, with Ian Andrews bringing a superb save from Nomads' keeper Paul Smith.

The striker then sent a header just over the bar and Marc Griffiths also missed the target after being put in by Osian Jones.

With two minites remaining Andrews found himself one-on-one with Smith, but it was the former Rhyl stopper who came out on top.
