Nomads out of drop zone after derby win

The Nomads have lept above Prestatyn Town and out of the relegation zone following a 2-1 victory at high flying Airbus UK.

The game was originally scheduled to take place on New Year's Day but due to multiple postponements due to bad weather, this was the only clash between a top half and bottom half side in the second phase of the Welsh Premier League.

Whilst leaving the drop zone, The Nomads helped ex-Nomads Ryan Edwards and his teammates at TNS take a step closer to the Welsh Premier LEague crown as the result dealt a massive blow to Airbus' title hopes.

The Nomads went in 1-0 down at half time following an own goal by Russell Courtney who deflected a Ryan Wade cross past Terry McCormick on the half hour mark.

McCormick was called into action on numerous occassions, denying both Wade and Andy Jones before The Nomads got back into the game when a Mike Hayes shot was deflected in by Lee Owens levelling the scores.  On the 70th minute, a free kick was swung into the box and Danny Forde rose highest to nod home for The Nomads giving the team a fantastic win at a team chasing the league title.

Following the game, Director of Football Mark McGregor said "The momentum's been going since the start of the split but even tonight we were only looking at this game.

"We can't look forward too far because you come a cropper.

"I've got 20 lads there, some are going to miss out again on Saturday, thanks to everybody involved in getting those players here, it's proved very worthhile."

Nomads were a goal down after half an hour but hit back with two in the second half to seal the points.

"We always knew it was going to be a battle, it's one of the bottom teams coming to play one of the best teams in the division, so we tried to turn it into a battle, we tried to frustrate them," McGregor added.

"It didn't work first half but it did in the second, it's basically job done.

"The season has been so weird, we started off really well, we were third after seven games and then went on the worst streak I've ever been involved in while I've been in football.

"January came at the right time, we got virtually a new half a side and that has proved so vital over the last four or five weeks.

"Although we didn't make any today, the impact from the subs has given us fresh legs and everybody is just loving winning football games again."
