Nomads taste defeat at Tudno

Gap Connahs Quay lost out to Llandudno FC of the Cymru Alliance on Tuesday evening after goals from Dean Seagar and Bryan Roberts were superior to a brace from Ricky Evans. This was a pre season friendly which saw starts for Evans and Rainford, whilst Gary O Toole was rested after picking up an injury against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

The game opened in entertaining fashion as a Rainford free kick was just kept out from the top right corner, before the striker again found a ball via Kyle Parle which was intercepted by the Llandudno defence. Nomads did score via Michael Burns on around 20 minutes however this did not stand as the referee had already blown the whistle for an injury on the home side.

An early substitution saw Jack Riley replace Jack Rowlands, as pressure was still applied by Nomads through Rainford who narrowly missed an effort in front of goal. Although both sides enjoyed a number of chances, the score at half time stood at 0-0.

The second half of the match began in a captivating manner as a penalty was awarded to Llandudno after a handball from Nomads, despite the decision originally being given as a corner and was only changed after a few minutes of discussion from the referee and linesman. Dean Seagar stood up and converted past John Rushton to take the lead for the home side.

Llandudno continued their attack on goal and were yet again rewarded when Rushton, immediately after the restart of play due to a collision involving him and a Llandudno striker, dropped the ball leaving Seagar to get his brace. Nomads began to attempt to reclaim some of the game and did so via a Ricky Evans penalty after Jamie Rainford was brought down in the box.

The comeback was nearly completed when Rainford hit the crossbar after Evans kept possession of the ball impressively inside the box. The equaliser eventually came in the form of a great diving header from Ricky Evans.

Despite the comeback, Nomads could not hold a determined Llandudno and superb individual goal from Bryan Roberts who ran in on the left wing and beat McCormick on his near post. Minutes later the referee blew up for full time and closed an entertaining encounter in which Nomads just missed out.

Mark Mcgregor and his players now go onto their annual Yorkshire Tour where they will face Ossett Albion and Tadcaster Albion.
