Bangor take the Deeside spoils

The Nomads lost out to Bangor City by three goals to one on Tuesday evening. A goal from Anthony Miley was quickly cancelled out by an Ashley Ruane equaliser in the first half, before goals from Chris Jones and Sion Edwards sealed an away win after the interval for The Citizens.

The game was a vital one for both sides who were looking to climb up a still open Dafabet Welsh Premier league table. Bangor came to Deeside having hosted The Nomads two weeks before, in a game where the Citizens won 2-1. Thus, The Nomads came into the game with a will to put that result right.

Strong line ups were announced with Les Davies, George Horan and Wes Baynes all retaining their places whilst the prolific pair of Langos and Ahmadi began the game for Bangor.

Langos had a shot straight from the off, sending his effort low towards goal where Danby made his save. In the sixth minute, Rushton played a great ball to Ruane on the edge of the Bangor area, his strike going wide of goal.

The Nomads pressed again with a Wes Baynes free kick flicked on by a Davies header to Horan in front of goal who headed wide. As the twentieth minute approached Bangor became more ferocious, seen when they were awarded three consecutive corner balls.

The breakthrough for Bangor came in the 24th minute when, from a free kick taken by Sion Edwards around 40 yards out, Anthony Miley met the ball close to goal to slot it in past the left post.

There was however little time for the away side to congratulate themselves or their fans to celebrate, with Ashley Ruane heading and scoring inside the Bangor area after the restart on 25 minutes.

Despite a flurry of efforts from both sides, the score line at half time read 1-1, which was indeed fair with Nomads and Bangor seeing possession and enjoying good attacking phases of play.

It was the home side who had the first go after the interval, with a Les Davies shot from 20 yards going low and just wide of goal. A dangerous spell for Nomads so nearly came to a goal when Ruane sent a curling effort towards the Bangor goalmouth, but 'keeper Connor Robert did well to dive and save.

The Nomads attacked the Bangor end up until the 70th minute, when their campaign to go ahead was scuppered by substitute Chris Jones' goal. After replacing the injured Leon Clowes in the first half, Jones ran onto a loose ball in The Nomads area and beat Danby to the ball, slotting it behind the keeper to score.

The travelling fans could then again celebrate just two minutes later, when Sion Edwards knocked home the ball, with the assist of a free kick around 20 yards from goal, into The Nomads' net in a similar fashion to Bangor's opening goal.

From this, The Nomads had a mountain to climb, and introduced Corey Roper and Chris Rimmer, the latter heading upfront to bolster The Nomads' attack. Yet the Bangor defence remained secure, with one opportunity missed by Rimmer who headed a Callum Morris cross narrowly wide.

Porya Ahmadi of Bangor then may have the score line 4-1, finding himself in space and in possession around nine yards from The Nomads' goal, but the result was a high and wide attempt.

With that, the game came to a close and a disappointing night for The Nomads ended, leaving the side to rue a number of missed goal scoring opportunities. They next play away to The New Saints on Friday evening, for a 7:45pm kick off.
