Five star Nomads too good for Talbot

The Nomads claimed an emphatic victory over Port Talbot Town on Saturday afternoon, winning by five goals to nil.  Robbie Parry, Paul Linwood and Les Davies sent The Nomads three goals up in the first half, with Callum Morris and Sean Miller scoring in the second.

The game was of vital importance to the race for a Dafabet Welsh Premier League top six place, with The Nomads going into the game in sixth position and only four points separating them and Port Talbot in tenth.

The match was in doubt after persistent bad weather from the early hours of the morning, but the Deeside pitch passed an inspection to become one of the two surviving Dafabet Welsh Premier League fixtures that day.

The Nomads started the game with the wind in their favour, and looked to utilise that throughout the half. The first major chance came five minutes in, when Les Davies sent an effort towards goal which keeper McFenton initially let slip, and watched the ball roll just wide of goal.

Yet The Nomads succeeded in their second attempt on goal, when Davies sent a great ball to Robbie Parry who had the space and time to slot the ball in, and did just that from 6 yards. The Nomads had broken through on eight minutes with Robbie Parry scoring on his Deeside debut.

Nick Rushton then had a chance to double Nomads’ lead when he broke free on goal, but sent a low shot to the left post of the Talbot goal where McFenton did well to save.

The wind was a difficult factor in the game, seen when a free ball was caught by the conditions and bounded towards the away goal with Les Davies chasing it. McFenton caught the ball on his line, doing well to keep it out in the circumstances at Deeside.

Nomads’ second came in the 30th minute, when a free kick from around 30 yards was headed in by Linwood who rose up to neatly head the ball in after a knock on in a busy Talbot area.

The home side were dominant in this first half, but in the irregular conditions a 2-0 lead seemed fragile with a second half against the wind still to play. Nomads recognised this and bolstered their lead via Davies in the 40th minute.

After a Port Talbot kick away from goal was caught by the wind, Les Davies pounced to intercept the ball and send the ball past McFenton and into the net unchallenged.

At the beginning of the second half Port Talbot now went with the wind, and looked to challenged Nomads’ goal which they hadn’t achieved in the first.  Paul Fowler sent a powerful effort towards goal from 20 yards, the attempt going wide.

Kurtis March then broke through to the Nomads goal, forcing Danby into making an excellent low save off his line.

Successfully absorbing the pressure from Port Talbot, Nomads went back on the attack, with Rushton chipping a ball up to Davies, who headed the ball wide of goal.
Robbie Parry then came close to a brace when free in front of the Talbot goal he sent a shot to McFenton, who stopped the effort with a comfortable catch.
Nomads fourth came via a penalty in the 65th minute, after recent Port Talbot signing Alan Tate committed a handball in the area. Stepping up was Callum Morris, who scored his 3rd penalty in his last two games.
A substitution was then made with Parry replaced by Sean Miller. With a comfortable lead, Nomads had control of the game, but this was not without Port Talbot continuing to attack and forcing Danby to make a couple of quality to saves to secure the Nomads’ clean sheet.

The final goal of the game was perhaps the best of the bunch, when Ruane, who had replaced Les Davies, ran down the wing and into the Talbot area, beating three defenders on his own. After this, he played a great ball to Sean Miller who 5 yards from goal sent the ball past McFenton to score in the 81st minute.

Nomads then made their final substitution of the game which saw Rimmer replace Horan, the Nomads number 17 deployed to help retain possession and see by this point effectively over game out.

After 2 minutes of injury time, referee Huw Jones ended the match which was Nomads highest scoring game so far this season. This victory moves Nomads up to fifth in the Dafabet Welsh Premier, and gives them the motivation needed for an away fixture at Rhyl FC on Saturday 19 December in a live S4C sgorio game.
