Nomads progress with victory in theWord Cup

The Nomads progressed to the thirdrd round of theWord Cup after a 3-1 victory over Prestatyn Town.  Goals from Nick Rushton, Chris Rimmer and Les Davies were enough to see the tie through successfully despite a Jordan Davies goal in the 42nd minute.

After a 3-0 win at Guilsfield, The Nomads were once again drawn away to Cymru Alliance opposition in the competition.  They fielded a mixed side which incorporated the experienced Les Davies with the likes of Jack Riley and Corey Roper.

The game kicked off and The Nomads were soon forced to cope with pressure from the home side, who came close to scoring when Lewis broke free, one on one with Danby, who swept low and saved.  Les Davies then went close, holding play up whilst in the area and in possession, turning to shoot only for his shot to be blocked.

After successfully defending their lines during a period of attack from the home side, The Nomads broke through via Rushton who, assisted by a long throw from Davies, sent the ball to the top right corner of the goal with a finesse touch around 11 yards from goal.

The Nomads lead was almost held until half time, however Jordan Davies of Prestatyn stepped up in the 42nd minute to score quite possibly the goal of the round, striking from 20 yards to hit the top right corner of Danby’s net.

At half time, the even scoreline reflected the game where both sides were attacking and defending well, irrespective of their difference in league membership, further proving the quality of the nation's lower tiers.

In the second half, The Nomads came out eager to get their job done, and proved this by scoring two goals within five minutes. From a Les Davies corner, the ball was headed goalwards by Chris Rimmer - a Prestatyn player on hte line was unable to turn the ball away from goal, giving The Nomads the lead again.  Following this, Rimmer then presented Davies with a ball in the Prestatyn area, letting The Nomads' number 10 smash the ball into the net from close range.

Prestatyn still threatened in the second half, but as the game progressed, The Nomads took more and more control.  Sean Miller, Ashley Ruane and Jack Chambers were all introduced and although they ran at goal numerous times the final goal of the game had already been scored.

There was a late scare for The Nomads when Prestatyn sent a long throw towards the middle of a packed Nomads area, however John Danby was on hand to catch the ball firmly.  Soon after, referee Kevin Parry signalled the end of play and The Nomads were thus through to the third round of theWord cup.

The team now awaits news of the thirrd round draw, but also look ahead to Saturday’s Dafabet Welsh Premier League fixture away at Aberystwyth town, kicking off at 2:30pm.
