Nomads beat Bucks in Welsh Cup win

The Nomads secured their place in the quarter finals of the JD Welsh Cup on Friday evening.

With goals coming from Robbie Parry in the 16th minute, Morris in the 18th and 34th and Crowther scoring on 84 minutes.  Buckley’s Dave Bryan scored in the 92nd minute, grabbing a late consolation for the away side.

The game was the first of the JD Welsh Cup fourth round, with 16 teams looking to enter the prestigious quarter final stages.

Buckley brought a side with good form having defeated MBi Llandudno in the third round, with The Nomads’ welcoming Robbie Parry back into the starting lineup for his second loan spell at the Club.

The game began and The Nomads missed two good chances to break the deadlock early on.  Les Davies went one-on-one with 'keeper Jones, and centred his shot for Jones to save.  Minutes later, Miller flicked a shot towards goal but missed narrowly despite being unmarked in the box.

In the 16th minute, The Nomads righted their earlier misses, when Nathan Woolfe found Robbie Parry, who sent a dinked effort into the bottom left of Jones' goal.

Less than two minutes later, Callum Morris scored the goal of the game, when he cut in from the right, and lifted a left footed shot over the defence and Jones in goal to send The Nomads two goals up.

With The Nomads now the established side in the game, the match was a controlled and medium paced encounter for the remaining ninety minutes.
On 34 minutes, Morris got his brace with a similar finish, again cutting in on his left foot, this time inside the Buckley box and finding the net again.

The away side were three goals down but not out of the game, with Leamy and Molyneux consistently trying to create chances in The Nomads’ half.

The second half was a quieter affair than the first, as The Nomads seemed comfortable with a three goal lead at home. Buckley saw more woe heaped upon them when in the 49th minute Johnny Taylor was shown a straight red card after a rash tackle on Wes Baynes.

The Nomads made two substitutions early on in the second half; Crowther replacing Woolfe at half time before Miller made way for Ashley Ruane up front.

Ruane consistently got in great positions but couldn’t find the target, with Jones producing a number of good saves to keep The Nomads out for the majority of the second half.

Ruane then set up Morris for his hat-trick with a ball which cut across the goalmouth of Buckley’s area, but Morris slid in marginally too late to score a likely goal.

The Nomads continued to manage the game comfortably, with Les Davies replaced by Nick Rushton in the 70th minute.  As the game went on, Buckley upped their tempo in The Nomads' final third, seen when Jack Leamy won a corner and forced a good save from John Danby.

The last ten minutes saw Buckley introduce two new players, as Dave Bryan and Danny Wynne came on.  Bryan was to get his side a consolation goal, but not before Crowther sealed victory with a low volley from the edge of the box on 84 minutes.

With two minutes of injury time played, The Nomads conceded a corner from which, Bryan forced the ball home, getting a deserved goal for his side's efforts in a game that was truly over well before full time.

The Nomads await the draw for the JD Welsh Cup quarter finals, and now look onto their next game at home to Mbi Llandudno at 2:30pm on Saturday
13 February.
