‘Magic’ Mike Hayes plundered a four-goal haul for the second successive game as Mark McGregor’s side ran riot to return to the top of the Huws Gray Alliance with a resounding 7-1 victory over the league’s surprise package, Rhos Aelwyd.
The home side, seeing off 2010 without realising on the evening, had a dream start when Hayes broke the deadlock almost straight from the kick-off, converting a pinpoint Stuart Scheuber free-kick inside three minutes.
Hayes added to his tally after new signing James McIntosh, making his debut after completing a move from Buckley Town, picked him out and on 28 minutes he had converted a hat-trick.
By then, strike partner Dean Thurston had got into the thick of the action, netting following an inch perfect cross from Tom Baker on the right.
Rhos were awarded a dubious 48th minute penalty for a harsh handball, which was converted by former Welsh international and Wrexham veteran Wayne Phillips, sending Terry McCormick the wrong way.
In truth, though, the visitors rarely troubled McCormick’s goal and after a period of little action, the final five minutes saw the hosts complete their demolition job to win in fine fashion.
Thurston added to his tally from the penalty spot after a foul on substitute Rob Jones and then capped a fine performance by becoming the second Nomads player to convert a treble in the final minute.
Rhos were shell-shocked and conceded yet another goal when Hayes broke clear to net his 18th goal of the campaign deep into stoppage time to take Nomads back to the top and to see out the year with a bang.
