Nomads beat the Nomads!

In truth the final score somewhat flattered Connah's Quay as their Chester counterparts, despite being on the back foot for most of the first half, showed plenty of attacking intent after the break.

The Huws Gray Alliance champions were quick off the mark and took an early lead through last season's goal machine Gary O'Toole. Dave Swanick found Alan Hooley on the left and his low cross was turned in by O'Toole with just six minutes on the clock. Thereafter the Quay spurned several chances to add to that lead while at the other end Louis Mackin was little more than a spectator.

It was a different tale after half-time though as Chester upped their pace and added bite in midfield which resulted in two cautions. After triallist Shaun Roscoe saw his left-foot effort palmed clear by the Chester 'keeper, it was the turn of Mackin to make a good save on 55 minutes. Two minutes later O'Toole had an effort thwarted before Chester broke quickly and our substitute goalkeeper John Rushton was called into action twice inside a minute.

Finally Connah's Quay grabbed the initiative following the introduction of youngsters Healey, Reece and Jones. On 71 minutes Rhys Healey was clumsily fouled from behind, the teenager stepping up to score from the spot, and after Rushton was forced into another fine stop, Healey and Rob Jones added further goals to seal the win.

A Rob Jones free-kick in the 86th minute brought a good save from the home custodian but after two corners had been partially cleared Rhys Healey was able to score with a looping header that just crept over the line. Then came the goal of the match in the 89th minute when Rob Jones collected a pass almost on the half-way line and delivered an inch perfect shot over the retreating goalkeeper's head from all of 45 yards.

NOMADS: Louis Mackin, Ben Alston, Alan Hooley, Jack Rowlands, Andy Alston, Craig Jones, Dave Swanick, Triallist (Roscoe), Gary O'Toole, Triallist (Williams), Rob Jones.

Substitutes: John Rushton (for Mackin 62), George Baxter (for Rowlands 53), Aled Reece (for O'Toole 67), Rhys Healey (for Williams 67), Ryan Jones (for Ben Alston 67).
