Unbeaten streak ends in Bay defeat

Connah's Quay Nomads' six-game unbeaten streak in the Novira Cymru Premier came to an end following a 2-1 defeat to Colwyn Bay at the Blue Turtle Arena on Saturday. 


Callum West gave the Nomads an early eighth minute lead with a calmly converted penalty into the bottom corner after he was fouled inside the area by Ethan Roberts. West now has 10 goal contributions in his last seven games. 


Darren Stephenson, who was making his first start for the Nomads,  had the ball in the back of the net later in the first half as he pipped Mark Halstead to the ball and walked into an empty net, but officials deemed Halstead to be in possession of the ball with two hands before Stephenson managed to intercept, meaning the Jamaican forward was denied his first competitive goal for the club.


Colwyn Bay equalised eight minutes into the second half as Jordan Davies sprinted down the right hand side and fired beyond Chris Renshaw at the near post.


The hosts quickly completed the turnaround as Nathan Peate met Josh Williams' corner and headed the ball down to Sol Forde, who tapped in from close range.


The Nomads introduced a number of fresh legs in an attempt to find an equaliser, but Bay held on to clinch all three points.
