Unforgettable experience for U15 trio in Wales National Academi call-ups

Connah’s Quay Nomads U15s trio Jac Foley, Alfie Jones and Leo Saxon all had an extra dose of midweek football on top of their regular training and analysis sessions with the club as all three players featured for the U15 Cymru National Academi squad against Manchester City last week.

The fixture provided the young Nomads with a valuable opportunity to test themselves against elite opposition, with Manchester City’s academy widely regarded as one of the strongest development setups in Europe.

For Foley, Jones and Saxon, the call-ups not only reflected their impressive performances at club level but also highlighted the Nomads’ growing reputation for producing talented players capable of competing on a national level.

This now rounds off a memorable few weeks of international joy at the club, with First Team stars Kit Margetson and Abdi Sharif also representing Wales U21s and Somalia respectively. Everyone at the Nomads is incredibly proud of each representative, and we hope these special moments can continue in the future.

On the call-ups for Foley, Jones and Saxon, U15 coach Ross Jones shared his thoughts: “The U15s are a fantastic group to work with and for three of these lads to be called up is an unforgettable experience for them that we hope will stick with them forever. This just goes to show how much the whole group is pushing each other every week in training.

“Jac Foley joined Connah’s Quay ahead of the new season and has settled in well. He is a great wide player, who is direct with pace and power, so we are extremely happy as a club to see Jac called up in the short time he has had with us so far.

“Alfie Jones has been playing for the Nomads academy since the beginning at U8 level. He has a great work ethic and enjoys developing his game in his own time outside of the club too. He is a really confident young goalkeeper who reads the game well and offers composure and calmness. For Alfie to be called up to this squad is just one of the many achievements we hope he can earn moving forward.

“Leo Saxon was captain for the National Academi team against Manchester City, so that adds more weight to an incredible personality achievement for him. Leo has a fantastic drive to be the best in every game and every session. He is a versatile player with a great balance of aggression and quality. We can confirm he has been successful in a recent trial with Wrexham, so we wish him the best of luck in his next chapter, and we are glad to say he earned this call up while enjoying one of his final weeks with us.

“For these lads to be called up and have this sort of recognition shows the great opportunities we have within the Connah’s Quay Nomads academy, and we are confident other players will have these opportunities in the near future.”
