Connah’s Quay Nomads are pleased to announce the signing of 19-year-old defender, Alex Hughes.
Hughes rejoins The Nomads after originally playing for the club’s U8 age group back in 2015, when he was signed by Wigan Athletic.
Hughes has gone on to spend the last decade at the Latics working his way through their Academy setup, earning not only a two year playing scholarship at the club but also his first professional deal.
Hughes made his First Team debut for the side from the DW Stadium in the EFL Trophy against Salford City last year but was ultimately released by the Latics this summer, leading to the opportunity to reunite with his hometown club.
On rejoining the club, Hughes commented; “As soon as I knew that Connah's Quay were interested I couldn’t wait to speak to the manager - playing for Connah's Quay where I grew up and still live is a huge honour and I will give my best to bring success to the club where it all started.”

First Team Manager John Disney added; “Alex is someone who has been on our radar for a while now at the club - he started out his football journey back as a seven-year-old at Connah’s Quay Nomads and has been at Wigan ever since playing all the way through at the academy and representing the first team.
Alex is a real good athlete and technical footballer who comes with a real hunger to do well in a first team environment and with him being a local lad I know how much the club means to him.
We are looking forward to working with Alex and welcome him back to the club.”
