Today has seen the announcement of the JD Cymru Premier Team of the Season, featuring six Connah's Quay Nomads players.
A fantastic achievement by all of the players included in a team dominated by Nomads players. From a defensive point of a view, goalkeeper Oliver Byrne along with defenders John Disney and George Horan all feature whilst Callum Morris, Mike Wilde and the outgoing Danny Davies all feature in the attacking half of the lineup.
Since his debut in goal against Cefn Druids in November, Byrne has only lost two games, conceding just 14 goals in his 22 games. Disney and Horan both featured heavily throughout the season with Disney making 29 starts, while Horan made 20 starts, finding the net on seven occasions, including the early opener against Penybont on the final day.
The recently departed Davies equalled Disney's start record of 29 games, netting 4 goals in the campaign, some six behind Callum Morris, who found the net 10 times throughout the season including an early hat-trick against Cefn Druids and a brace against Caernarfon which also won the Goal of the Month award for May.
Mike Wilde rounds of the sextet of Nomads players to be included in the Team of the Season in what was his best season for the club since his arrival back in June 2016. Wilde scored 18 goals in the campaign, finishing as runner up in the league's Golden Boot competition with his defining moment of the season being his emphatic hat-trick against former side TNS in the 4-1 victory at Park Hall in April. Those three goals rounded off a fine goalscoring run for Wilde, who had scored 15 in his previous 18 games.
Congratulations to everyone who was voted in to the team by the opposition managers within the league.
