Kylie Jones announces retirement

Kylie Jones, Connah’s Quay Nomads Women’s all-time record appearance maker, has announced her retirement from football.

Jones captained The Nomads in the 2023/24 season and she is one of only three players to have spent three seasons under manager Jordan Parry.

Jones made 64 appearances and scored 20 goals for The Nomads, and her impressive spell with The Nomads will always be remembered.

Her first goal for the club came on her competitive debut as the midfielder netted in a 14-1 victory over Denbigh Town in the Genero Adran North.

Other memorable moments for Jones include scoring in our 2022 and 2024 NEWFA Cup final victories over Llandudno and Airbus UK Broughton respectively. Jones, along with Emily Luke, are the only two players to have lifted the NEWFA Cup all three times with The Nomads.

On her retirement, Jones said: "I told the girls I never actually thought I'd hear myself saying this but I'll be retiring from football and leaving the team. I never thought the time would come but now seems like the right time to do it.

"There are a few factors influencing my decision but all in all it comes down to commitment for the next season. I'm getting married in September and will be going on my honeymoon so I think I'd miss too much football and I want to be fully invested as that’s what the team deserves. Football has been my life for the last 26 years so it’s crazy to think I'll be giving it up.

"I have to say thanks to Jordan for bringing me into the team three years ago. I was going through a time where I wasn’t enjoying football and looked to a new challenge. I remember the first conversation with Jord and his vision for the women's side at the club. It most definitely got my attention and I wanted to be a part of something that was going to grow and progress. What has been achieved in the last three years is certainly a combination of many things, from the coaching staff to the players. All the hard work that goes on behind the scenes that us players don’t really see.

"What has been accomplished has been a great achievement particularly when you look at the PDC. I'm incredibly proud to have been just a part of growing the women's sector at this club. I'd have to say there have been many highs and a few lows but when you take a step back and think about it, it's incredible what has been created.

"A few of my favourite moments at the club include winning the NEWFA cup in my first season. It was a fantastic final to be a part in. Another high point was playing at the racecourse in front of 9500 fans, which is something I could only have dreamed of when I was younger. I'd say the biggest and proudest moment was being named captain of the team last year. That for me was my best moment and I'd like to thank Jord and the team for trusting me with that responsibility. I've loved every moment with the girls and wish them all the best for the future."

Everybody at Connah's Quay Nomads would like to wish Kylie the best of luck for the future!
