Connah's Quay Nomads are delighted to confirm that our application for approval to operate an FAW Accredited Girls Development Centre for the 2024/25 season has been successful.
Our womens and girls section of the club has been growing year on year since we first launched our Women's team in 2019 and has seen the Women's First Team win the NEWFA Women's Cup Final for the past three years consecutively whilst our U19 Women's Team won the Adran North Development League this past season.
To now have an official Girls Development Centre in partnership with FAW is hugely exciting, and for the club to now have a female section boasting every age group from U9s to U19s a Scholarship Team and Women’s First Team is an incredible achievement for all involved.
Over the past year the growth of the womens and girls section has seen the club operate sessions across all ages with all girls sides training together following the same curriculum and collectively at The Poppies 3G.
Academy Director Jay Catton commented; "The goal has always been to give girls extra training and games alongside there grassroots sides. The extra sessions and games with ourselves, alongside the girls' respective grassroots team sessions and local league fixtures, allows for further development for all of the girls and gives increased training and games times across all.
Along with following the same curriculum as our UEFA Category A Academy boys programme, our girls ages will now be able to play a number of arranged fixtures for Connah’s Quay Nomads and will take part in number of FAW Development Centre festivals across the coming season as they have already enjoyed training games at incredible venues and teams such as Tranmere Rovers, Wolves, Wigan and Manchester United female academies.
The girls players enjoy the same facilities, equipment and kit as that of our boys and men's teams and again, this was another key goal of ours when setting up - along with a top facility, equipment and kit available to all girls, the Connah’s Quay Nomads FAW Development Centre also boasts a hugely successful qualified and experienced pool of coaches including five UEFA Pro and UEFA A License holders along with UEFA B and C staff across all ages.
A huge credit to Head of Women’s and Girls section Jordan Parry along with all staff in gaining this status in what is such an exciting time for all female players associated at Connah’s Quay Nomads Football Club from our U9s right through to Women’s First Team.
This is massive news for Connah’s Quay Nomads Football Club and we look forward to the continued growth and development of our young girls players and working alongside the FAW with our official Girls Development Centre for the 24/25 campaign."
Drew Sherman, Head of National Academies at the FAW added "We thank you again for your ongoing commitment to player development within Wales and look forward to working to support your Development Centre through 2024/25.
