We are delighted to announce that Alfie Jones, the youngest player to ever make a senior appearance for the Connah’s Quay Nomads First Team , has signed his first professional contract with the club.
Jones joined The Nomads in 2025 having previously had spells at Caernarfon Town, Flint Town United and The New Saints in the respective club’s Academy setups.
Whilst playing as a 15-year-old in the U19 team last season, Jones was part of The Nomads Academy team that would win the Cymru Premier North Development League.
At just 16 years and 31 days old, Jones made history in August by becoming the youngest ever player to feature for our senior squad after he came on as a substitute in our 6-0 win over Trefelin in the Novira Cymru Premier.
Jones has also gained notable experiences in playing for the Wales U16 schoolboys squad including a 3-1 victory over Manchester United in April.
Jones is the latest player to rise up from our highly-rated FAW-accredited Academy programme and progress into our First Team, marking another proud moment for the whole club, including everyone who has been involved in the youngster’s journey so far.
First Team Manager John Disney commented “As a football club we pride ourselves each year on developing players from our scholarship programme and continually look to develop players through to the First Team at the end of each season.
We are continually showcasing that with each matchday this season - on some occasions there are players who catch the eye straight away and when that is the case we want to ensure we secure them to the football club as early as possible, especially with our average age now being the youngest in the league.
From the first time Jack and I saw Alfie in a training session we knew straight away that he would be ready to step in to the First Team under our model no matter his age and after some very thoughtful conversations with Alfie and his Dad, I am delighted to announce that Alfie has decided to sign a First Team contract at 16 and really commit to what we are trying to do as a club. I know Alfie is a keen advocate of how we train with the First Team and the extra work he does with Ethan and Jack who rate him extremely highly is testament to himself.”
Disney continued; “Alfie is the youngest player to make his debut for the club which I was proud to be able to be a part of and is someone I truly believe will be ready to step in to our First Team on a regular occurrence in due course whilst making a mark in the Cymru Premier. There has been some competition for Alfie’s signature naturally since we gave him his debut but I am delighted that his parents trust us to be the club in which he looks to continue his development.
I think this speaks great volumes of the work the coaches Andy Butler, Anthony Weaver and James Duff do in our U19s and I hope Alfie is the first of many in this cohort to break fully in to the First Team - I am extremely excited to keep working with him.”
Everyone at Connah’s Quay Nomads congratulates Alfie on signing his first professional contract and earning the chance to continue his development in the Novira Cymru Premier.
