Sumner named recipient of inaugural Jamie Wynne Club Person of the Year award

Connah's Quay Nomads stalwart Leighton Sumner has received the inaugural Jamie Wynne Club Person of the Year award for 2024.

Following our U10s tournament this past weekend, which included Caernarfon Town and Liverpool, Sumner received the award from Jamie’s father and ex-Nomad, Darren Wynne.

This was a fully deserved acknowledgment for Summer, who has been a key part of our club setup for over a decade and still is to this day. Sumner’s involvement in our academy and youth programme has been so important to the club as he has aided so many youngsters in reaching their full potential.

Sumner's award was one that the late, great Jamie Wynne would certainly be proud of and would have supported due to a great relationship with Sumner and many other coaches at the club.

The Jamie Wynne Club Person of the Year award wall can be seen in The Quay Clubhouse as part of our exciting new renovation in the building.

On receiving the award, Sumner commented: "I am delighted and so proud to be given this award as it holds such a special place in my heart.

"Jamie was a very close friend and colleague of mine during his time at the club, so I am honoured to be the first person to receive this award and to be presented it by his dad Darren.

"It is such a fantastic award for us as a club to present and there will be many more worthy winners who I am sure will feel equally as honoured as I do in the future."
