Horan returned to the Deeside Stadium in 2014, having left in 2005 to join Rhyl where he played until 2010 before moving on to Chester FC where he was the club captain, making 138 appearances for the newly formed club following the demise of Chester City.

Horan played over 140 games for The Nomads in his first spell with the club which spanned five years starting in 2000. Following his departure to Rhyl in 2005, Horan was named in the Welsh Premier League team of the season for four consecutive seasons from 2006 to 2009.

The 2015/16 season saw Horan lead The Nomads to UEFA Europa League qualification for the first time in the Club's history, and in June 2016, Horan signed a one year extension at Deeside.
