For Connah’s Quay Nomads Women, the mission is simple.
Secure victory over NFA at The Poppies 3G on Sunday afternoon, and they will be crowned Genero Adran North champions for the first time.
It has been the dream campaign for the Nomads with 11 wins from 11 matches to their name so far, and after finishing as runners-up for the last two seasons, it finally looks destined to be third time lucky for Jordan Parry’s side.
Lifting the title would be special by all means, but Parry is fully focused on opponents NFA heading into Sunday as he hopes for another stellar performance from his team - which is arguably the one thing any manager would be proud of the most.
“Our feet are firmly on the ground as we approach NFA this Sunday,” said Parry. “Nothing changes for us until the 90 minutes is done. For the last three years, we have found out winning the title is not a given and every single game, it is earned. This group is humble and ready to dig in against any team we face.”
Knowing the title is just three points away does come with added pressure, but the feeling when all nerves are settled and you are finally over the finish line is one that is hard to put into words for any football team at any level.
At Connah’s Quay Nomads, winning trophies are always special, and this would be a defining moment for Parry on a personal level given the frustrating moments from the last few Genero Adran North campaigns.
“My dad has always said to me ‘good things come to those who want it’, and I have manifested winning this title since day one,” said Parry.
“We have fallen short the last few seasons, but this summer we got things right in regards to recruitment, what culture I wanted, the playing style and most importantly the way my players commit the way I do and the staff do.
“Winning this title would be the icing on the cake to this project. My objective was not to only build a competitive team, but it was also to create a whole female section at this club.
“I have coaching experience at various levels and I can honestly say this has been the most rewarding. It has been challenging for me to get out of my comfort zone, but it has made me a better coach, manager and human being.”
That summer transition on and off the field will go down as the major turning point for The Nomads’ impressive season.
Polly Wild-McGregor was made captain at just 19-years-old, but there have been simply no signs of fear. Instead, it has been the complete opposite as the youngster has oozed confidence by bagging 20 goals to lead the division’s scoring charts.
In addition, Poppy Kendrick-Jones, Mel Barlow, Nicole Samson, Ellie Suckley, Natasha Spearing and Tia Lockley all arrived with previous Genero Adran Premier experience, while forward Ella Jones joined from title rivals Llandudno and led the line in style.
All players possess their own qualities, which is no doubt an important thing when it comes to winning football matches. However, one thing that shines out most is the commitment levels, which according to Parry, is the main reason for this season’s success.
“Commitment is why we are in this position now. I made it pretty clear prior to this busy period that we would need anyone.
“This team keeps showing up every time for one another and we have never had a bond like this in any of our teams in the past.
“The Christmas periods from past seasons still haunt me, but I know to not get too high with the highs and too low with the lows.
“I needed the right people who wanted to commit consistently to achieve. Tough calls were made, but it needed to be done. Our intention was to compete and get in the top half this year, but this squad has gone above and beyond expectations.”
It is no secret that Sunday could be a special afternoon, and one that could bring a smile to so many faces.
With numerous players, families and staff involved within our female section from the younger groups in our Player Development Centre all the way up to our first team, we are urging you all to attend The Poppies 3G on Sunday as you can have the chance to witness history.
Not only would winning the title bring joy to our team, but also to our local community and whole town.
“This has been a dream of ours for nearly four years,” said Parry. “To have support from our academy and PDC, all the families and anyone from our local community will be incredible because we will be in for a tough game and will need everyone’s support.
No matter what happens on Sunday, the hard work and dedication of the whole staff in the dugout and behind the scenes does not go unnoticed by Parry.
“None of this is ever done myself alone,” the manager added. “I am extremely lucky to not only have good staff but also friends. This group have helped me through a tough year personally and have supported me through it all.
“Relationships go beyond the pitch. I would like to thank Ross Jones, who has been apart of this setup from the beginning and has always been by my side, even when we played against Wrexham in front of over 10,000 fans and lifted three consecutive NEWFA Cups.
“Chris Redfern’s tireless passion and commitment from distance to help this group never goes under appreciated. Leighton Sumner’s wealth of experience and personality has enforced new ideas and character, while Mason Blackwell-Jones consistent care towards each player developing them weekly over and over again will never go missed.
“Our U19s staff Dan Roach, Andy Ellis and Denver Green have not only committed to their team, but also ours. We are one big group who support, challenge and are there for one another.
“In addition, the support staff of Faicka Harley and Adam Angerer behind the scenes has been crucial to all of our success this season.”
We are ever so close to this title, and we are urging all of you to get behind our team this Sunday. Every voice, every clap and every piece of encouragement is going to help massively.
Fans can attend The Poppies 3G and pay the £3 entry fee upon arrival at the ground. We hope to see many of you there!
